There are many different ways to adapt to the loss of a loved one. Each individual person has to find what works best for them. Just because one person deals with it different than the next does not mean that either way is wrong. No matter how you deal with your loss it is important to remember a few key factors which will help you through the grieving and mourning process.
First of all do not isolate yourself. You will need some alone time, but not in excess. You need your friends and other loved ones around you which will give you a sense of normality. They may be gun shy for fear of upsetting you, so pick up the phone and give them a call or invite them over for dinner. Food and drink consumption is necessary for grief and it takes a lot energy. You may not feel like eating, so fix yourself small snacks or meals and increase your water consumption. Let yourself cry, your tears are your body’s natural way to deal with your loss. Do not dwell in your loss and do not fall too deeply in self pity. Seek out and join a support group. These groups will help you learn about the grieving process and reassure you that you are not alone.
Lastly, loss of a loved one is a part of life. If you never allow yourself to experience the grief you feel, then how will you help the others around you when they are grieving? Grieving and mourning is a natural process that your body goes through. This processes is necessary to help you regain your self and to go on with your life. It is a day to day process, but with time you will get through it.
